Learning Coaches are a specialized service tailored to supporting the academic
needs and educational outcomes of children and youth, ages 6 – 18 years old, who
are involved with child welfare, mental health or treatment centres by:
- Working collaboratively with the school’s teachers, administrative staff, social workers, etc. to create, facilitate and monitor an educational plan of care that addresses learning barriers (e.g., special education, suspensions, transitions between schools), and promotes academic achievement
- Providing tutoring in-line with class curriculum, and that addresses learning gaps
- Teaching learning strategies to promote healthy learning habits at home and at school
- Strengthening relationships between the home and school
Learning Coaches are certified teachers or service professionals with a combination
of education, skills and experiences to respond effectively to the educational needs
of children and youth.
