The CALM Parenting Program (Connect. Attune. Learn. Model.)

At Renew, we believe that when parents feel supported, children thrive.

The CALM Parenting Program is a one-on-one, therapist-facilitated parenting support framework created for today’s families - families navigating separation, co-parenting in high conflict situations, caring for children with exceptionalities, or parenting alone or part-time through parenting time arrangements. We recognize that no two families are alike. That’s why CALM is built around one essential truth: when we help parents Connect, Attune, Learn, and Model, children feel safe to grow, learn, and build healthy relationships.

A Personal Approach

CALM is not a group course. It’s not a lecture. It’s a one-on-one therapeutic experience designed around your child, your parenting goals, and your unique situation. Whether your child is an infant, a toddler, a school-aged child, or a teenager, our therapists work alongside you to identify where you need support, and deliver practical tools to help you feel confident in your role.

We meet you where you are.

Connect. Build stronger emotional bonds with your child.
Attune. Deepen your understanding of their behaviours and needs.
Learn. Gain insight into age-appropriate parenting strategies and the unique needs of your family situation.
Model. Lead with calm and confidence to create a nurturing home environment.

Whether you're managing overnight transitions, learning how to support a child with autism or ADHD, navigating blended families, or looking for tools to communicate more effectively with your co-parent, CALM gives you personalized, hands-on guidance and strategies that evolve as your family does.

We understand the real-life challenges:

  • Parenting alone or part-time under a parenting time or decision-making arrangement
  • Working with a former partner you struggle to communicate with
  • Helping your child adjust to two homes
  • Navigating court involvement or supervised parenting time
  • Parenting a child with developmental, learning, or emotional needs

We offer tailored coaching for each of these realities, not just for parenting in theory, but for parenting in practice.

CALM Program Tracks (Tailored for Every Parenting Reality)

Each CALM program track includes personalized sessions and optional child-parent sessions, guided by a therapist with clinical expertise in separation, child development, and co-parenting. Clients can engage in one or more tracks depending on their needs:

CALM: Foundations (Ages 0–12)

For parents of infants, toddlers, and children in early/middle childhood. Learn how to strengthen your connection, attune to emotional cues, respond to tantrums and transitions, and model effective behaviours through developmentally aligned parenting strategies.

CALM: Parenting Teens

Supports emotional regulation, navigating peer pressure, school stress, and fostering open communication during adolescence. Especially helpful for parents managing shared parenting time, complex family dynamics, or strained parent-teen relationships.

CALM: Parenting Through High Conflict

Built for parents navigating high-conflict separation or post-separation challenges, including parallel parenting, supervised parenting time, and court involvement. Focuses on co-regulation, boundary-setting, and tools to keep children out of conflict while maintaining a calm and attuned presence.

CALM: Exceptional Parenting

Support for parents raising children with exceptionalities (e.g., ASD, ADHD, learning disabilities, developmental delays, sensory needs). Includes psychoeducation around diagnoses, responsive care strategies, and real-time support for your child’s unique emotional and developmental profile.

CALM: Co-Parenting Together

For parents who are able and willing to attend sessions together. Ideal for amicable separations, this track helps parents collaborate on routines across households, create shared language when communicating with children, and foster a sense of stability and safety as kids transition between homes.

How the Program Works

  • Session Format: 1:1 sessions with an MSW-level therapist; optional in-person parent-child sessions to practice strategies together
  • Session Length: Typically 60 minutes each
  • Number of Sessions: Flexible and responsive to client need; a typical pathway includes 6–10 sessions
  • Cost: $185/hour. Sessions may be eligible for reimbursement through extended health benefits.
  • Location: In person (where available) or virtual appointments offered across Ontario
  • Documentation Provided: A Certificate of Completion and a summary report are available upon request and can be shared with the courts or other professionals when applicable.

Why CALM Works

What makes CALM different and effective, is our unique, real-world approach:

  • Clinical Expertise. Each program is delivered by a registered MSW therapist with specialization in family dynamics, separation, mental health, and child development.
  • Tailored Interventions. Parents receive guidance that reflects their specific parenting time schedule, child’s age, developmental stage, and family history.
  • Hands-On Coaching. CALM offers the opportunity for your therapist to join parenting time sessions when appropriate, helping to model skills in real time, observe interactions, and offer direct feedback.
  • Skill Building Between Sessions. Parents are given optional homework, including reflection prompts, short readings, videos, or practical exercises to help reinforce and practice what they’ve learned.
  • Therapeutic Integration. CALM integrates attachment-based, trauma-informed, and evidence-backed methods shown to support emotional safety and behavioural improvement in children.

Research consistently shows that parenting programs are most effective when they are personalized, skill-based, developmentally informed, and supported by a qualified professional. CALM brings these components together, meeting families where they are, so they can get to where they want to be.
